Colored gems are different from diamonds. Diamonds already have a very mature evaluation system in the world, but colored gems do not have it. Therefore, when we hear businesses saying things like Vivid, everyone is puzzled, including Cornflower and Royal Blue, including the sunrise and sunset of Papalacha, there is no strict system to restrict.
And the color evaluation given by different appraisal agencies usually had limitations. This one might produce cornflower, but to another testing agency, it might not be able to produce it. Some of the certificates were well written, while others were very strict.
Internationally, there was no uniform standard for color grading of colored gemstones. Each gemstone laboratory had its own color grading system. The ability to establish a grading system recognized by the market was the best proof of the authority of the laboratory.
GRS launched a new concept of color level in November 2019 - Vibrant. In 2020, GUILD Lab also separated Vibrant from the color evaluation system of spinel and evaluated it as a separate parameter. The matter of rating is actually quite subtle. It is both academic and commercial. The highest rating standards should not be too harsh - too scarce to play with, nor too relaxed - which will reduce credibility. Moreover, the rating system also needs to be adjusted with the market trend. When vivid ratings are everywhere, it is time to introduce a new level to stimulate the market. This was the same as playing games. The old server was full of masters. It was time to raise the level limit or open a new service.
GRS introduced a new gemstone concept, for perfectly cut stones, with excellent clarity, high saturation, and even color distribution.
Vivid, little angels who like colored treasures are no strangers. The earliest GRS used in the appraisal certificate is to describe the gemstone with the highest saturation, the thickest, bright and no dark color. It can be used on various colors such as red, pink, blue, and green . On rubies, Vivid Red plus strong fluorescence is equivalent to pigeon blood red, and on emeralds, the best of Vivid Green will be called Kiso Green.
In the previous rating, Vivid stayed more in the two dimensions of color lightness (value) and saturation (saturation). Vibrant is a more comprehensive concept, and the standard is "perfect cutting, excellent clarity, extremely low dark domain and uniform color distribution." When the GRS certificate is rated as Vibrant, it means that in terms of color, first of all, the brightness is very high - extremely low dark domain, no color ribbon - uniform color distribution, and second, the clarity and cutting are very good, which will have a stunning fire color.
In short, it is a general practitioner - color, clarity, cutting without a partial subject, to get the Vibrant rating.
Before, a customer asked me what kind of gemstones were cost-effective. In fact, there was never any leakage to pick up gemstones. They were all worth every penny. The so-called cost-effective was to sacrifice a certain parameter, and it just so happened that you didn't care much about this parameter.
And when you face a Vibrant-rated stone, don't think about cost performance. Respect the scarcity of top gems in nature, understand that things at the top of the pyramid are bound to be expensive, that is, respect your IQ and wallet.
